A new public safety facility that will house offices for the Brookhaven Police Department, as well as its Municipal Court and Emergency Operations Center, will be built on a tract of land bordering the Peachtree Creek Greenway.
The county recently announced that the public safety building will be built on a portion of the 19-acre tract that will also house a trailhead for the greenway, a linear park now under construction.
“This parcel is already set to be the focal point of the PCG, and resolves our search for our new public safety facility, which ensure that our police and court system have all of the resources to provide the best service to residents, including walking to work if they want to,” Brookhaven Mayor John Ernst said in a news release.
The Peachtree Creek Greenway is a linear park, similar to the Atlanta Beltline, that will run along the creek’s North Fork. The first mile will be built in Brookhaven.
The police department has outgrown its current headquarters in a rented building on Buford Highway. The total budget is $12 million and the new building is expected to be completed in summer 2020.
