DESCRIPTION

Full architectural and interior design services for a new eleven-story hotel for the Marriott Corporation in conjunction with Vanderbilt University.  The hotel is the second structure located on a restricted site.  Skidmore, Owings and Merrill provided master planning and the first structure, an office building.

The design of the hotel maintains a coherent and fluid feel with respect to the existing office building.  The hotel façade features brick in multiple colors and several patterns to achieve the design intent.  In addition, the façade utilizes a contrast of materials including a suspended metal canopy, applied aluminum features as well as expansive curved curtain walls to enclose major interior elements.

The hotel features a 4,000 SF ball room, meeting rooms totaling 3,500 SF, a board room, and all day dining in a 130 seat restaurant.  Additional amenities include an indoor pool, full service spa & exercise room, game room, and a state of the art business center.  The guestrooms total 316 in number and feature a range of sizes and styles from the standard double room @ 340 SF to the executive suite @ 770 SF.

This project was scheduled as “fast track”, the foundation permit was obtained months prior to the completion of the construction documents, which occurred in August of 2000, and construction had commenced the previous June and was scheduled for completion the following year.
